SOUTH BEND -- What started as a report of a stray gunshot in a parking lot ended with a 32-year-old South Bend man being hit with a Taser and arrested by police.
A South Bend police officer on patrol on South Main Street about 2 a.m. Saturday was flagged down by a person who reported a man had just discharged a gun into the air in the parking lot of Chippewa Bowl, 225 W. Chippewa Ave., according to police.
Based on the witness's description of the man's vehicle, the officer located the car parked in the 100 block of West Dean Street, according to a police report.
When the officer ordered the man out of the vehicle, the man exited and started lifting his shirt away from his waistband, according to the police report. The officer ordered the man to stop, but he continued to pull at his shirt, so the officer used his Taser on the suspect, according to police. A handgun was found on the seat of the man's vehicle, according to police.
The suspect was arrested, suspected of criminal recklessness, possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun without a permit, intimidation and resisting arrest.
